Job Description

Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI) is a well-established statewide organization with over 130 years of dedicated service to improving the health and well-being of children and families. Known for its passionate mission to advance opportunity and hope, FSRI operates through diverse and inclusive teams that specialize in various fields across their Health, Healing, Home, and Hope divisions. The organization delivers impactful strategies statewide with multiple operational locations in Providence, East Providence, Smithfield, and North Smithfield. FSRI fosters a welcoming and supportive environment that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion, making it an employer of choice for those committed to community service and positive social change.

FSRI is currently seeking an Executive Chef for their South County Academy, a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all food service functions at the facility. This position requires a dynamic, organized, and highly skilled culinary professional who will ensure the implementation and adherence to food safety standards, sanitation protocols, and compliance with state and federal regulations. The Executive Chef will manage and schedule kitchen and line staff efficiently while coordinating farming and gardening activities in partnership with the Activity Coordinator. This role emphasizes a farm-to-table approach to creating well-balanced menus that support the health and nutrition of those served.

Beyond kitchen management, this role carries the unique responsibility of implementing a culinary arts curriculum geared toward youth development. The curriculum is designed to foster life and vocational skills, empowering the residents or participants with practical knowledge in culinary arts. Candidates who bring experience in teaching and mentoring young people will find this an especially rewarding opportunity. FSRI values bilingual or multilingual candidates, offering additional compensation for language skills, including Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL).

The Executive Chef position demands excellent multitasking and communication skills combined with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Physical requirements include the ability to travel between community sites, communicate effectively, and handle moderate physical activity including lifting up to 20 pounds. Candidates must hold a current driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.

FSRI emphasizes an inclusive application process and encourages candidates whose experiences do not align perfectly with every qualification to apply. The organization supports employee growth and diversity and offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and work-life benefits.

Compensation for the Executive Chef is determined based on relevant and transferable experience, certifications, licenses, degrees, and language skills, highlighting FSRI's commitment to fair and equitable pay practices. Joining FSRI means becoming part of a family dedicated to making a meaningful difference in communities across Rhode Island, promoting health, healing, and hope through every facet of their work.
