- High school diploma or GED
- good communication skills
- strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- ability to adapt to changes in workplace, duties and office policies
- general computer literacy and proficiency with office software
- ability to handle confidential information discreetly
- customer service experience preferred

Job Duties
- Greet patients as they arrive at the front desk or checkout
- answer telephone calls, take messages or direct caller to appropriate area
- schedule or reschedule appointments for patients according to established guidelines
- prepare electronic charts for appointments
- electronically file medical record information
- review demographic information with patients according to established guidelines
- obtain signed HIPAA and other forms that are not obtained electronically
- obtain current insurance information from patient
- collect co-pays or balance due
- notify appropriate nurse or medical assistant of any same day schedule changes
- assess the waiting room to be sure no one is missed
- update patient information for chart and billing staff
- balance cash and charge tickets at the end of each day
- send mammography letters
- file scanned medical records
- receive, send and electronically file faxes
- shred confidential documents
