La Cocina Shafter is The Wonderful Company’s vibrant new café located within the Wonderful Logistics Center in Shafter, California. This café serves the culinary needs of the employees of The Wonderful Company, local tenants, and the surrounding community, offering a welcoming environment for all. The café is dedicated to providing delicious, high-quality food and beverages alongside efficient and friendly service. At La Cocina Shafter, customer satisfaction and creating a warm, inviting atmosphere are key priorities aimed to enhance the daily experience of every guest.

We are currently seeking a Front of House Associate for La Cocina Shafter, a dynamic role ideal for someone passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and great food and coffee. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with flexibility to meet operational needs, and is based fully on-site in Shafter, CA. The hourly pay range is competitive, between $19.00 and $21.00, commensurate with skills and experience.

As a Front of House Associate, you will be the face of the café, greeting customers warmly and ensuring each guest has a memorable visit from start to finish. Your responsibilities include taking and preparing coffee shop orders accurately and efficiently, operating registers, and communicating clearly about specials and events. You will craft a variety of specialty drinks like espresso beverages, in-house coffee syrups, freshly squeezed juices, and wellness shots, all while maintaining safety and cleanliness. Additional duties involve prepping fresh fruit for grab-and-go options, supporting catering events with prep, delivery, and service, tracking inventory, and keeping the café environment clean and organized. This role demands excellent multitasking, communication, and teamwork, along with a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

Job Requirements

  • GED or high school diploma
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in food service, barista, or hospitality
  • food safety or food handler certification
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • valid driver’s license
  • ability to work Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
  • strong customer service skills
  • ability to operate café equipment safely
  • good communication skills
  • ability to follow food handling and safety regulations

Job Qualifications

  • 6 months to 1 year of previous work experience in food service, barista, or hospitality preferred
  • GED or high school diploma required
  • food safety and/or food handler training or certification
  • awareness of local, state, and federal health and sanitation laws
  • basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation including coffee techniques
  • understanding of proper use and maintenance of café equipment including espresso machines, grinders, brewers, refrigeration, and kitchen tools
  • ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a positive attitude
  • strong commitment to exceptional customer service and attention to detail
  • excellent communication and active listening skills
  • problem-solving ability and openness to take direction
  • conversational Spanish desired but not required
  • must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • valid driver’s license required

Job Duties

  • Greets customers with a friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude
  • takes and prepares coffee shop orders accurately and efficiently
  • operates registers and communicates clearly with customers about daily specials, updates, and upcoming events
  • prepares daily specialty drinks including espresso beverages, in-house coffee syrups, freshly squeezed fruit juices and wellness shots while working safely and organized
  • assists with prepping fresh fruit for the Grab-and-Go area
  • supports onsite and offsite catering events including tracking, prep, delivery, setup, service, and tear down
  • helps track inventory and restock supplies for front of house operations
  • follows proper food handling techniques and physical safety rules
  • ensures all front of house equipment is functioning properly and reports maintenance needs
  • keeps service and storage areas clean, sanitized, and well-organized
  • communicates customer feedback to managers and recommends new menu items or improvements
  • supports tasks assigned by Food Service Manager or Front of House Supervisor
