The Front Desk Receptionist plays a pivotal role at SDSU Imperial Valley as the first point of contact for visitors, students, and university employees. This full-time, permanent position within Student Health Services is designed for a service-oriented professional eager to enhance the campus experience by providing exemplary customer service and administrative support. The role requires efficiently managing a busy front desk, addressing inquiries, managing appointments and calendars, and providing detailed information about campus and health services. The Receptionist also undertakes essential clerical duties, including data entry, filing, and operation of office equipment, in addition to supervising and mentoring student assistants who support front desk operations. Working onsite in the Imperial Valley campus, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop critical communication, organizational, and leadership skills within a mission-driven educational setting. Candidates with bilingual capabilities, particularly in Spanish, are highly valued due to the diverse community served. This position carries a salary range aligned with CSU classification ASA II and includes eligibility for overtime compensation under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility depending on operational needs. The successful candidate will be an essential contributor to fostering a welcoming and efficient front-office environment that supports the university's commitment to student care and service excellence.

Job Requirements

  • Fundamental written and oral communication skills including English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Ability to understand standard office procedures
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to learn office technology systems
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Typing and keyboard skills
  • Completion of a high school program or equivalent
  • Some experience in an office environment

Job Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Associate's Degree in Public Administration or Business Administration preferred
  • Two years of experience as a receptionist, administrative assistant, or clerical preferred
  • Experience working in higher education or public sector preferred
  • Experience with utilizing computer and phone systems
  • Experience with Google email, Google Calendars, Zoom, Excel spreadsheets, Word, and PowerPoint presentations
  • Experience handling high volume of traffic both in-person, phone calls, and emails
  • Professional attitude and excellent written and verbal communication skills

Job Duties

  • Greet and assist visitors, students, and university employees, directing them to appropriate offices or personnel with professionalism and discretion
