The role in question is that of a Front Desk Agent, a critical position within the hotel's operations. As the first point of contact for guests, the Front Desk Agent plays an essential role in shaping the overall guest experience. This individual is responsible for greeting and communicating cordially with guests, handling their check-ins and check-outs promptly and professionally, and assisting with pre-registration and reservation blocking whenever necessary. The position requires comprehensive knowledge of the hotel’s front office computer system or manual procedures, ensuring all daily transactions are carried out accurately and efficiently.

Additionally, the Front Desk Agent manages cash handling duties, including processing payments through various transactions such as cash, checks, and credit cards, and making change correctly. The role requires an in-depth understanding of hotel rates, discounts, and reservation procedures, including how to handle same-day bookings and special requests. The successful candidate will ensure that cancellation and relocation procedures are followed meticulously to maintain operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in hospitality or customer service preferred
  • Ability to work varying schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately
  • Strong attention to detail

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in front desk or customer service roles preferred
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use computer systems efficiently
  • Basic cash handling skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • Greet and communicate cordially with guests, promptly and professionally checking them in and out of the hotel
  • Assist in pre-registration and blocking of reservations when necessary
  • Promptly, accurately and efficiently know how and where to post all charges
  • Have complete working knowledge of Front Office computer or manual system, including all daily transactions and those which are not performed often
  • Accurately manage cash handling, including receiving cash, checks and credit card information from guests for payment of hotel charges and making change correctly
  • Review any reservations with special requests and work to block rooms accordingly
  • Have knowledge of hotel rates, discounts and how to handle each
  • Have working knowledge of reservations and procedures, including how to take same day reservations
  • Should be able to take reservations in approximately 2 minutes
  • Know and follow cancellation procedures and relocation procedures when necessary
