Job Description
The Museum of American Speed is a renowned automotive history museum founded by Speedway Motors. Dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and sharing the stories of American automotive innovation, racing, and engineering, it serves as a cultural hub for enthusiasts and visitors from all over the globe. Featuring thousands of artifacts, rotating exhibits, and unique collections, the museum offers a rich and educational experience that honors the legacy of American automotive achievements. It provides a distinctive environment where history and innovation intersect, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the heritage of speed and engineering excellence.
The Museum of American Speed is currently seeking a Front Desk Associate to join its team. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy blending customer service, retail, and administrative roles within a mission-driven museum environment. As the first point of contact for guests, the Front Desk Associate plays a crucial role in delivering outstanding visitor experiences by greeting and assisting guests, answering questions about exhibits and events, and managing admissions and gift shop sales both in-person and online. This position requires a friendly, reliable, and organized individual ready to contribute to various front desk operations while supporting the overall mission of the museum.
The role involves handling transactions accurately via the point-of-sale system, maintaining an orderly and attractive gift shop, and ensuring the reception area is welcoming and clean. Additionally, the associate will be responsible for cash balancing and sales reconciliation at the end of shifts. Beyond front desk duties, administrative support to museum staff is also a key component, offering an opportunity for the associate to contribute broadly to museum operations. The role demands adaptability, a proactive attitude toward continuous improvement, and a commitment to the museum’s core values, which emphasize teamwork, positivity, people-first approaches, open communication, and a drive to succeed.
Work schedules vary seasonally with winter hours covering Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and summer hours typically including Thursdays and one to two other weekdays along with Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Flexibility is required to accommodate occasional special events or operational needs outside these hours. This position offers a unique chance to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment surrounded by automotive history and innovation, with continuous opportunities to engage with new guests and share the museum's captivating stories.
Joining the Museum of American Speed means becoming part of a passionate, supportive team that values each member as integral to delivering exceptional guest experiences. Employees benefit from various perks including product discounts through Speedway Motors, rent discounts at Speedway Properties, referral bonuses, and free admission for their families. The workplace fosters a collaborative and encouraging atmosphere, making it more than just a job but a meaningful part of a community dedicated to automotive heritage and education.
