Job Description

Burlington Surf Club is a vibrant community-focused recreational establishment located at Hula Lakeside in Burlington's south end, Vermont. It offers easy access to the picturesque Lake Champlain, featuring a sandy beach and a spacious lawn ideal for relaxation and outdoor activities. The club caters to members and guests who are enthusiasts of paddling and windsurfing by providing indoor and outdoor storage rental services for personal boards, as well as equipment rentals suitable for paddlers and windsurfers of all skill levels. The facility features amenities such as changing rooms and storage lockers, ensuring a convenient and comfortable experience for visitors. The club regularly hosts daily activities both on and off the water, fostering a strong sense of community and encouraging guests to enjoy the stunning lake views and sunsets.

The Front Desk Associate at the Burlington Surf Club plays a crucial role as the first point of contact for members, guests, and visitors. This position is responsible for delivering an exceptional hospitality experience, supporting daily operational tasks, and helping maintain an inviting, warm, and organized atmosphere at the club. The role is both full-time and part-time, with seasonal availability, offering an hourly wage between $19.00 and $21.00. Reporting directly to Sarah Krause, the General Manager of Burlington Surf Club, the Front Desk Associate does not have any direct reports but serves a vital function in creating a welcoming environment.

The role’s key responsibilities include greeting members and guests with professionalism and warmth, managing visitor check-ins and guest access, answering queries related to memberships, events, and amenities, and fostering an inclusive community atmosphere. Additionally, the associate will manage front desk operations such as handling phone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries, ensuring the cleanliness and organization of front desk and common areas, and monitoring space use adherence to community guidelines. Administrative support duties involve assisting with member onboarding, account updates, basic transaction processing, and record maintenance. Community engagement is another fundamental aspect of the role, as the associate helps build relationships with members, promotes upcoming events, collects feedback, and communicates member needs to the team.

The position demands strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and a friendly, reliable, and proactive attitude. Experience in customer service, hospitality, or similar front desk roles is essential, with preferred qualifications including hospitality or community-focused experience, water sports familiarity, CPR certification, and knowledge of membership or booking software platforms. The shift schedule is flexible and requires availability on evenings and weekends, aligning with the club's schedule of seven days a week operation.

The Burlington Surf Club emphasizes its commitment to diversity and equal opportunity employment, encouraging applicants from varied backgrounds to apply. Employees are required to obtain mandatory reporter certification due to the nature of work involving children, with training and background checks provided if necessary. Overall, the Front Desk Associate position offers candidates a rewarding opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and inclusive community environment in one of Vermont's most cherished recreational venues.
