The Darcy is an eclectic, 226-room boutique hotel located in the heart of Washington DC. The Front Desk Agent plays an integral role in upholding these values by being the first point of contact for guests, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring seamless check-in and check-out procedures.
The Front Desk Agent position is based at The Darcy Hotel, located at 1515 Rhode Island Ave NW, Washington DC 20005. This full-time hourly role offers a competitive pay range between $18.00 and $21.00 per hour. The agent is responsible for responding professionally to arriving, departing, and in-house guests, providing accurate and timely information and services, and handling various guest inquiries and concerns both in person and over the phone.
Key responsibilities include using both manual and computerized systems to greet guests, complete check-ins, and facilitate check-outs while maintaining accurate and up-to-date hotel records. Handling guest accounts and cash transactions with proper cash handling techniques is crucial. The agent is also tasked with managing reservations through effective communication and suggestive selling techniques aimed at increasing room occupancy and hotel revenue. Maintaining excellent customer relations, being knowledgeable about local activities and hotel events, and operating PBX equipment to assist with calls and wake-up services are important components of this role.
The Front Desk Agent must be capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment, exhibit tact and understanding when dealing with a diverse range of customer service issues, including stressful or highly emotional situations, and maintain a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor at all times. The position also requires some physical activity, including standing for 90% of the shift, bending, kneeling, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs to assist clients throughout the hotel.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in hotel environment preferred
- Ability to handle cash and operate computerized systems
- Experience in public-facing roles with customer service skills
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Ability to read written material and computer screens
- Manual dexterity for operating keyboards and handling paperwork
- Ability to follow instructions and multitask
- Strong interpersonal skills including tact and understanding
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 lbs
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Hotel experience preferred
- Mathematical aptitude at high school graduate level
- Knowledge of standard cash handling procedures and computerized cash register systems
- Experience dealing directly with the public
- Basic customer service skills
- Fluency in oral and written English
- Ability to read written communiques and monochrome computer screen
- Dexterity to operate computer, calculator, and telephone keyboards
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and multitask
- Communication skills both verbally and in writing
- Tact and understanding in handling customer service problems, including stressful situations
- Highly organized with attention to detail
Job Duties
- Greet and complete established check-in procedures for arriving guests daily
- Facilitate guest departure (check-out) following manual and computer procedures
- Calculate and post monies, receipts, guest accounts, and other forms of credit accurately
- Courteously answer inquiries and accept reservations both in person and by telephone
- Maintain good customer relations by keeping abreast of all in-house and area functions
- Operate PBX equipment including accepting calls, scheduling wake-up calls, and paging guests
- Control cash transactions and maintain responsibility for personal bank according to hotel policy
- Maintain friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor
- Process guest mail, messages, and faxes by receiving, sorting, notifying, and distributing
- Maintain department communication sources such as log books
- Provide assistance to other employees and departments
- Ensure safety by following check-in and security procedures and report suspicious activity
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
