The Bakery Associate role at The Fresh Grocer is a vital position responsible for supporting the Bakery Manager in the daily operations of the bakery department. This role involves baking, mixing dough, icing, packaging, and filling various designated pastry and bread items. Working as a Bakery Associate means engaging with customers directly to provide a welcoming and helpful service experience. This role also includes preparing trays to meet customer satisfaction, tracking sales through production logs, and managing inventory by ordering supplies as necessary.

The job requires the associate to maintain a clean and organized workspace, sanitize equipment and surfaces regularly, and operate bakery machinery with care and competency. Physical requirements include the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift and move merchandise regularly weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, and work in varying temperature conditions. Job Requirements

  • Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language
  • Ability to stand and walk for the duration of a scheduled shift
  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 25 lbs, and occasionally lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures
  • Ability to work with fresh, dried and/or processed products, spices and powdered substances without allergic consequences
  • Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents
  • Ability to interact with customers in a friendly and helpful way
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to work all assigned work schedules and comply with time and attendance policies
  • Must be 18 years or older to operate balers, hi-los, power jacks, and slicing machines

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in bakery or food service is advantageous but not required
  • Proficient English reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is a plus
  • Ability to follow recipes and operate bakery machinery

Job Duties
