Nicholas and Company is a well-established, third-generation family-owned business that has been a trusted name in the foodservice industry since 1939. Founded by Nicholas Mouskondis over 80 years ago, the company prides itself on delivering quality products and upholding integrity in all aspects of its operations, from its business practices to its relationships with clients and employees. Rooted deeply in the community, Nicholas and Company has grown into a local choice for foodservice by consistently maintaining high standards and fostering a culture of respect and dedication. The company operates a comprehensive warehouse that includes dry, cooler, and freezer storage facilities, providing a dynamic and sometimes challenging environment for its team members.
The role of Freight Runner within the Warehouse team at Nicholas and Company is critical to the smooth functioning of the distribution process. This position is designed for an enthusiastic and professional individual who seeks to build a fulfilling career in warehouse operations. As a Freight Runner, you will be responsible for handling and transporting freight within the warehouse, ensuring that products are moved safely and efficiently to their designated locations. The position involves maintaining the organization and cleanliness of assigned dock areas, managing pallet areas, and adhering closely to company policies and key performance indicators (KPIs).
The Freight Runner role operates on a schedule of Monday through Friday with rotating Saturdays, beginning at 5:30 am and continuing until the work is completed. The pay rate for this position is $18.50 per hour, reflecting the company’s commitment to providing competitive wages. Responsibilities for the role include operating equipment such as electric pallet jacks and forklifts, performing unloading and restacking duties, wrapping pallets after product separation, and ensuring dock doors remain closed when not in use to maintain safety and product integrity. The work environment can include temperatures as low as -10 degrees, reflecting the varied storage conditions present in the warehouse. Freight Runners must also be vigilant in identifying any product or packaging concerns and communicating these to supervisors to avoid operational issues.
This opportunity is ideal for candidates with previous experience in similar roles who can make timely decisions using good judgment in a fast-paced environment. The company values self-motivation, strong communication skills, and excellent customer service. Joining Nicholas and Company means becoming a part of a driven work environment that recognizes and respects results, offers ample opportunities for personal growth, and provides an attractive benefits package.
