Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One-to-three months of relevant work experience or training in freight operations
- Ability to work at least 40 hours a week on a continuous basis
- Must be able to work flexible hours including extended shifts
- Must pass post-offer drug test and background check
- Ability to obtain forklift certification and safely operate forklifts ranging from 2.5t to 52t
- Must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
- CDL license preferred and ability to obtain one if required
- Must be physically capable of lifting or moving up to 50 pounds
- Must be willing to travel to remote areas of Alaska
- Ability to maintain a high level of alertness and adhere to safety procedures at all times
- Must demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Must have basic computer skills related to freight operations
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle hazardous materials as per regulatory standards
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One-to-three months of work-related experience and/or training in general freight operations
- Experience in the transportation industry preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Visio, and Outlook
- Ability to read and interpret freight documents
- Ability to perform basic math calculations
- Hazardous materials training
- Ability to operate forklifts and obtain necessary certifications
- Valid TWIC card and CDL preferred
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle demanding customer needs
- Detail-oriented with good organizational and interpersonal skills
- Flexible and adaptable to change
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to work extended hours and travel to remote locations
Job Duties
- Secure, unload and load breakbulk and less-than container load (LCL) freight with a variety of equipment including banding, dunnage, lumber, binders and chains
- Operate warehouse forklifts and friction cranes on land and barges
- Support marine terminal operations by setting and pulling cones, securing containers and other equipment on barges
- Assist in receiving and distributing freight to and from customers
- Maintain company property and perform general facility housekeeping duties
- Train and assist less experienced Freight Operators
- Travel to remote locations and other service centers as needed
- Adhere to all safety regulations and work in a consistent, alert, and safe manner
