Job Description

Sofar Sounds is a globally recognized live music and entertainment company that originated in a London flat in 2009. It was created to revive the magic of live music and has since grown into a worldwide movement embracing not only music but also comedy, singles, dance, and more. This unique platform has a distinguished reputation for discovering rising talent and has been instrumental in launching the careers of prominent artists like Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, and Leon Bridges. Sofar Sounds provides artists with professional opportunities, handling everything from booking and promotion to audience engagement, while also opening doors to brand partnerships, content creation, and global media exposure. Each event hosted by Sofar is unique, taking place in extraordinary venues ranging from ski jumps and caves to intimate living rooms and rooftops. The company prides itself on creating immersive experiences where audiences are encouraged to be present, support the artists, and engage deeply with the community using their devices as tools for connection rather than distraction.

Working at Sofar Sounds means being part of a passionate team committed to live events and artist discovery. The company culture thrives on creativity, collaboration, and a shared passion for music and live performances worldwide. The role of a Freelance Local Producer at Sofar Sounds is a unique, entrepreneurial opportunity designed for individuals who are passionate about curating live events and fostering community engagement in their city. This is a hybrid role, but candidates must be based in the designated city to effectively manage and grow the brand locally.

As a Freelance Local Producer, you will become an integral part of Sofar's global network of entrepreneurs and tastemakers. You will cultivate local artist, venue, brand, and community partnerships to create memorable, impactful Sofar events and experiences. The role requires a blend of event planning and curation, marketing and promotion, and hands-on event execution. You will have the creative freedom and ownership to define and execute your city’s strategy, including show themes, locations, and frequency, while ensuring every event reflects Sofar’s commitment to quality and hospitality.

In this position, you will lead booking, curation, and staffing of events, manage event budgets, foster relationships with local businesses, sponsors, and community organizations, and collaborate with other stakeholders to amplify Sofar’s presence. The role is commission-based, offering pay per event and flexibility that suits self-directed schedules. Success in this position demands strong business acumen, cultural fluency, resilience, and a proactive approach to overcoming challenges in live event production. You will be supported with access to Sofar’s global communities team, resources, and training, along with opportunities to network with other creators worldwide.

This role is best suited for individuals with a passion for live entertainment, local culture, community building, and entrepreneurship. If you thrive on creating engaging experiences, connecting diverse audiences, and driving brand growth through innovative community partnerships, this freelancing opportunity at Sofar Sounds offers a dynamic and rewarding platform to advance your career in live event production and cultural curation.
