Job Description
Sofar Sounds is a renowned global community that brings creatives and audiences together through unique and intimate live music experiences. Founded in London in 2009, the company has grown rapidly and now operates in over 400 cities worldwide. Sofar Sounds transforms everyday spaces—such as living rooms, rooftops, boutiques, and museums—into captivating venues for live performances. Their mission centers on creating intimate, inclusive events that foster discovery, community, and connection. What makes Sofar Sounds unique is the focus on delivering memorable live shows in unexpected places, which gives artists an opportunity to connect more deeply with fans in a welcoming environment. This approach has built a loyal audience and empowered local organizers to produce extraordinary events within their communities.
Sofar Sounds operates primarily through a globally connected network of independent event organizers who are empowered and supported by the central team. These organizers are entrepreneurial in spirit and driven by a deep passion for music and community building. The company culture rewards creativity, initiative, and genuine connection, making it a vibrant place for people who love live music and want to help it flourish locally and globally.
The role of Freelance Local Producer at Sofar Sounds is a unique, commission-based, freelance position that offers entrepreneurial freedom and meaningful ownership. Freelance Local Producers play a critical role in expanding Sofar’s presence within their designated cities by promoting and curating live events that resonate with local audiences. This position is ideal for someone who is deeply connected to their local cultural community, has strong business instincts, and possesses the ability to activate networks comprising artists, venues, brands, and community partners.
Producers are responsible for developing and executing audience growth strategies that reach beyond the existing customer base. They use self-directed local marketing tactics to promote and sell tickets, create innovative event themes, and strategically curate live shows with diverse artist lineups. The role demands a hands-on approach, from booking artists and managing event logistics to ensuring high-quality hospitality during shows and overseeing financial performance. Freelance Local Producers thrive on challenges like creatively driving ticket sales or handling live event curveballs with resourcefulness and determination.
This role requires the ability to work independently while collaborating with Sofar’s broader global team and other local producers worldwide. Though flexible and self-directed, much of the work occurs on evenings and weekends when live events are active. Candidates must be local residents with in-depth knowledge of their city’s unique neighborhoods, cultural nuances, and social pulse.
Compensation for this role is commission-based, ranging from $100 to $5,000 per month, depending on ticket prices, show volume, and event performance. This is an entrepreneurial, flexible position that demands initiative, accountability, and professional dedication. Sofar Sounds values diversity, encourages candidates from various backgrounds to apply, and fosters a culture of belonging where different perspectives and experiences are celebrated. If you have a passion for music, community, and live event production, and want to help shape the cultural landscape of your city, this role offers a compelling opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
