Job Description
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, commonly referred to as "the Exchange," is a premier retail organization operating on US Army and Air Force installations worldwide. As an $8 billion enterprise and one of the top retailers in the United States, the Exchange offers its customers a comprehensive range of retail services including department stores, convenience stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and an extensive internet shopping platform. The Exchange proudly serves Soldiers, Airmen, their families, and others who support the military community, ensuring access to quality US goods and services regardless of their global location—from US bases in Germany, Italy, England, Turkey, South Korea, and Japan to stores situated in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other operational regions.
As a mission-driven organization, the Exchange not only provides a shopping venue but also dedicates two-thirds of its earnings annually to support the military community, making it a unique establishment that prioritizes giving back to those who serve our nation. Their commitment to military members and their families sets them apart as employers who value service and sacrifice, fostering an inclusive environment welcoming everyone who wishes to contribute positively to this cause.
The Food Service Worker role at the Exchange is a vital position within this multifaceted hospitality and restaurant operations environment. This role involves working across various food service opportunities, including popular franchises such as Starbucks and Burger King, and many other food outlets across the military installations. This role is designed for individuals passionate about providing exceptional customer service, working as part of an award-winning team, and contributing to a great cause. The position offers flexible scheduling to accommodate various lifestyles and commitments, along with comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, life, and disability insurance. Associates also enjoy paid time off, shift differentials, holiday pay, and access to traditional pension and 401K plans for qualifying individuals. Additional perks include access to the base facilities, a mass transit program, and the unique status of being a Department of Defense employee.
The Food Service Worker will greet and engage customers warmly, creating a welcoming atmosphere through authentic interactions like maintaining eye contact and smiling. They will actively listen to customer needs and recommend products that best meet those needs, thereby ensuring an extraordinary customer experience. Accurate and efficient transaction handling, including engaging customers with appropriate conversation, is a key part of the role. Moreover, the Exchange emphasizes personal and professional development, providing associates with resources and tools aimed at fostering growth and success within the organization. This commitment to employee growth underpins the vibrant and collaborative team environment at the Exchange, where associates are not just workers but valued members of a supportive community.
This position falls under Job Grade 2, Job Tier 1, and is categorized in the Hospitality and Restaurant Operations career area. It is a non-supervisory role focused on frontline customer service within food service locations. The salary range for this position is from $18.04 to $21.05 per hour, reflecting the importance and responsibility of this role in delivering quality service to the military community. With only one position remaining, this is an excellent opportunity to join an organization that values dedication, service, and growth, while working in a dynamic environment contributing directly to the well-being of military personnel and their families.
