Job Description

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, commonly known as "the Exchange," is a well-established retail organization serving US Army and Air Force installations worldwide. As an $8 billion enterprise ranked among the top retailers, the Exchange operates a diverse range of outlets including department stores, convenience stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and an internet shopping site. These operations serve the needs of Soldiers, Airmen, and their families both on and off duty. The Exchange has locations not only on US bases in countries like Germany, Italy, England, Turkey, South Korea, and Japan but also in operational theaters such as Iraq and Afghanistan. This extensive reach ensures that military members and their families have access to American goods and services no matter where they are stationed or deployed. The Exchange is unique in its mission-driven approach; it gives back two-thirds of its earnings annually to support military communities, making it much more than a typical retail operation. Beyond shopping, the Exchange fosters a supportive work environment where military members, their families, and those passionate about serving those who serve the country can find fulfilling employment and career growth opportunities. The organization is committed to creating a workplace culture centered around growth, respect, and development. Employees benefit from flexible scheduling, comprehensive medical, dental, life and disability insurance, paid time off, shift differential and holiday pay, as well as traditional pension and 401K plans for qualifying associates. Additionally, employees gain access to base facilities, a mass transit program, and the privileges associated with being a Department of Defense employee. Joining the Exchange means becoming part of a dedicated team that values its people and strives to provide them with tools and resources necessary for success and personal growth.

The role of Food Service Worker at the Exchange places individuals at the heart of this mission-driven retail enterprise by delivering exceptional customer service across a variety of food service settings. Employees in this position have opportunities to work with a range of food service brands, from Starbucks and Burger King to many other food outlets on military installations. This role entails greeting customers warmly, efficiently and accurately processing sales transactions, and ensuring an extraordinary shopping experience for all patrons. Food Service Workers must be attentive and responsive to customer needs, adept at handling fast-paced service environments, and willing to take initiative and work flexibly across various store areas as needed. The position requires physical stamina as well, including the ability to lift up to 45 pounds regularly and occasionally more than 50 pounds, along with the capability to quickly learn new technologies used in service and payment systems. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with customers and who are committed to supporting service members and their families through outstanding service. The Exchange values employees who bring a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to cross-train and broaden their skills. Fast food experience is preferred though not mandatory, as comprehensive training is provided. In summary, this position offers a unique opportunity for those looking to make a meaningful contribution to military communities while developing valuable skills in a respected and supportive work environment.
