Job Description
The South Carolina National Guard Youth Challenge Academy is a state-run program committed to providing at-risk youth with educational and leadership opportunities through a structured and supportive residential program. The academy focuses on helping cadets build valuable life skills, academic success, and improved self-discipline. It operates a Dining Facility (DFAC) that plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations by providing nutritious meals to the cadets and staff in a timely and professional manner. The environment is designed to foster training and development, not only for the cadets but also for employees who assist in the preparation and service of food, creating a meaningful and dynamic workplace experience.
We are seeking a dedicated Food Services Worker to join our team at the South Carolina National Guard Youth Challenge Academy. This role is vital in ensuring that cadets receive breakfast, lunch, and dinner that meets the highest standards of food safety, quality, and presentation. The position involves a variety of food preparation tasks, such as cooking meats, vegetables, sandwiches, soups, gravies, and other menu items, under the supervision of the DFAC supervisor. The role also includes handling food deliveries, maintaining inventory, and inspecting prepared foods for palatability and adherence to prescribed menus and dietary requirements.
In addition to food preparation, the Food Services Worker assists in training cadets on proper food handling and serving techniques, which is integral to the academy's mission of youth development. Duties extend to maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the food service environment and equipment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. Supervisory responsibilities include providing work direction to new employees, fostering a collaborative and efficient kitchen team. This role demands a responsible, team-oriented individual who values structured guidance and is committed to contributing to a safe and supportive community for youth.
