The candidate will forecast food quantities for various departments and events, maintain detailed records of meal censuses and food usage, as well as manage purchasing and fulfilling cafeteria and special function food requests.

Additionally, the position requires inspecting equipment and work areas to ensure compliance with sanitation standards and correcting deficiencies promptly. An important part of the role is adhering to established safety and sanitation protocols to ensure safe food handling and prevent contamination. At times, the individual may function as a Food Service Assistant or Food Ambassador, undertaking a variety of tasks such as assembling and delivering patient meals, maintaining dish room and cleaning duties, assisting patients, managing cash handling, preparing and serving food, and maintaining supplies. This multifaceted role is critical to the smooth operation of the hospital's food service and plays a vital part in patient care and service excellence.

Job Requirements

  • High school graduate
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification must be obtained within 1 year
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in food preparation, service techniques, cashiering, sanitation, and dietary needs in a hospital or restaurant food service
  • Strong knowledge of food service operations
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to cooperate with nursing staff
  • Ability to read and understand oral and written communication
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Friendly and professional demeanor
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other computer skills
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs from floor to 5 ft
  • Able to lift and carry 40 lbs at waist height
  • Able to push and pull with 20 lbs force
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, twist, kneel, and climb during shift
  • Willingness to wear protective clothing and enter isolation rooms when required

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Acts as a resource to employees and students, including training and providing day-to-day work direction
  • Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress and accuracy of work
  • Monitors productivity and maintains appropriate staffing levels
  • Assists with human resource responsibilities such as interviewing, staff development, and resolving employee concerns
  • Interprets department policies and advises staff on procedural changes
  • Monitors general department operations, adjusts schedules, and ensures timely completion of work
  • Provides work direction and guidance to food service staff and assigns tasks to ensure efficient service
  • Maintains quality food production for internal and external customers
  • Resolves issues related to customer complaints, workflow, staffing, and equipment failures
  • Provides training in food preparation, recipe standardization, cashiering, infection control, fire safety, and cleanup
  • Forecasts food quantities for patients, cafeterias, and special functions and maintains meal and food usage records
  • Manages and responds to purchasing, tray-line, cafeteria, and special function requests
  • Inspects equipment and work areas to ensure proper maintenance and sanitation
  • Utilizes safety and sanitation standards to prevent contamination
  • May perform duties as a Food Service Assistant including meal assembly, delivery, cleaning, cash handling, and customer service
