The City of National City is currently seeking dedicated individuals to join its culinary team within a structured and professional kitchen environment. Under the general supervision of the Executive Chef, this role is designed to support the kitchen operations by performing a variety of unskilled duties pivotal to food preparation and kitchen cleanliness. This position plays a critical role in ensuring smooth service within the dining facilities, contributing directly to the positive dining experience of guests and staff alike.
The job primarily involves assisting in the preparation of meals, managing the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas, and operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include preparing fruits and vegetables, making salads, drinks, and simple desserts like gelatin and pudding, portioning food items, and maintaining appropriate food temperatures in line with food safety standards. The candidate will also be tasked with cleaning kitchen utensils and equipment, keeping floors and dining areas tidy, serving on the food line, and assisting during meal services. This hands-on position requires attention to detail, a commitment to hygiene and safety, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Job Duties
- assist in preparing main meals
- clean and prepare fruits and vegetables for cooking
- prepare salads, drinks, and simple desserts such as gelatin and pudding
- portion all food items and ensure proper temperatures are maintained in accordance with food safety standards
- clean basic kitchen equipment including pots, pans, and dishes
- clean and sweep floors and vacuum dining area and entrance as needed
- assist in serving prepared food on the serving line and serve in dining room when needed
- operate kitchen equipment including potato peeler, mixer, blender, steamer, kettle, and coffee machine
- make minor adjustments to equipment and operate in a safe manner
- assist in unloading and putting away items
- perform other related duties including receiving food and dry goods
