This job opening is for Food Service Worker/Cashier positions at Marywood University, located at 2300 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509. Both full-time and part-time schedules are available, with flexibility including weekend shifts. Pay ranges from $15.00 to $17.00 per hour, with additional internal employee referral bonuses offered. This position requires prior experience in food court or snack bar settings as well as customer service expertise. New hires will receive comprehensive training to ensure success in their roles.

The role involves a mixture of cashiering duties alongside general food service tasks. Food Service Workers and Cashiers are responsible for maintaining sanitation standards throughout food preparation, service, and dining areas. Duties include preparing ingredients by washing, cutting, peeling, and seeding fruits and vegetables, managing inventory, cleaning workspaces and utensils, and ensuring strict compliance with food safety guidelines including proper food storage and rotation.

This is a fast-paced customer-facing role where associates are expected to serve customers efficiently and courteously, handling customer inquiries and complaints with professionalism. Cash handling forms a significant part of daily responsibilities, requiring accurate sales transactions, making change, accepting various payment methods, issuing receipts, and managing assigned cash drawers in compliance with company standards. Associates will restock supplies and maintain cleanliness in service areas to ensure a pleasant dining experience.

Job Duties

  • Performs prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting and seeding fruits and vegetables
  • weighs and measures designated ingredients
  • carries pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator in accordance with safety standards
  • distributes supplies, utensils and portable equipment
  • stores foods in designated areas in accordance with wrapping, dating, and food safety and rotation procedures
  • cleans work areas, equipment and utensils
  • ensures compliance with sanitation and safety requirements
  • uses approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control
  • serves customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service
  • interacts with customers and resolves customer complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • relays relevant information to supervisor
  • performs sales transactions
  • enters sales into the cash register to ensure purchases are accurately recorded
  • makes change, accepts declining balance cards and other acceptable forms of payment
  • issues receipts to customers
  • follows standard procedures for issuing cash refunds
  • responsible for all assigned change funds and cash receipts, ensuring that cash drawer is in compliance with overage/shortage standards
  • replenishes condiments, beverages and general supplies while maintaining service area cleanliness
  • performs other duties as assigned
