The organization’s mission-driven approach emphasizes inclusivity, volunteerism, and community engagement to create lasting impact and support for all members. Known for its extensive network of facilities, camps, and community centers, the YMCA is a leading force in promoting physical health, emotional wellness, and social development for people of all ages.

The Food Service position within a YMCA camp setting plays a vital role in maintaining the organization’s high standards of quality and safety in food preparation and service. The individual in this position will be responsible for preparing food according to established production procedures, assisting with the presentation and serving of meals, and ensuring compliance with all sanitation, personal hygiene, and health standards. Maintaining cleanliness and safety in both the kitchen and dining areas is of utmost importance, as is proper storage of food and reporting any necessary equipment repairs.

This role requires teamwork, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility. The food service staff member must help maintain food service equipment and facilities that meet or exceed the standards set by the American Camping Association, state health codes, and YMCA policies. The position also aligns with the YMCA’s cause-driven leadership competencies, which include community focus, volunteerism, philanthropy, inclusion, relationship building, influential leadership, effective communication, functional expertise, emotional maturity, commitment to quality results, and the development of others. These competencies underscore the YMCA’s holistic approach to leadership and community service, ensuring that all staff members contribute positively to the organization’s mission and culture.

Candidates should expect to work in a fast-paced, hot, and humid kitchen environment requiring physical stamina, the ability to multitask, and a professional attitude. The ability to work well with others in a camp environment is crucial. The YMCA requires a background screening for this position, and certifications such as First Aid, CPR/AED are necessary and must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
