Job Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply
- subject to background/security investigation
- selective service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
- pre-employment physical required
- urinalysis drug testing required prior to appointment
- participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program required
- must complete a 1-year probationary period
- effective May 7, 2025, must have acceptable forms of identification for employment (REAL ID compliant)
- must be able to perform light to moderate physical effort including continuous standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending, occasionally lifting more than 40 pounds with assistance
- work schedule includes full-time shifts Monday-Friday with rotating days including weekends
- must be willing to comply with all employment policies of the Veterans Health Administration
Job Qualifications
- A specific length of training and experience is not required but must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to do the work of this position
- evidence demonstrating possession of knowledge, skills, and ability to perform duties supported by detailed descriptions on resume
- experience in dexterity and safety
- ability to interpret instructions and specifications other than blueprint reading
- knowledge of materials and technical practices
- ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
- capability to work without more than normal supervision
- knowledge of work practices
- preferred 2 years of supervisor experience in food service
Job Duties
- Supervises all areas of food production and service including food preparation, nourishment, tray delivery and retrieval
- takes corrective action for any problems that might arise on the floors pertaining to food service
- receives and inspects deliveries and requisitions all supplies needed in all food service areas
- prepares performance ratings/competencies for all employees under their direct supervision
- discusses work performance and problems with employees, monitors tardiness and attendance, provides guidance and makes necessary adjustments in assignments when necessary
- carries out the responsibilities of the position within general instructions, standard procedures and established policies
- ensures subordinates complete the tasks to which they are assigned and explains work requirements to meet food service schedules
- establishes priorities for daily operations in the event of emergency situations
- defines the standards of quality and quantity to be met
- serves as a member of the in-service training team by providing individual and/or group instruction for employees
- provides guidance and assistance for lower grade employees in making decision when assembling patient trays and utilizing correct foods to be served on modified diets
- maintains inventory of food service supplies and equipment
- conducts quality assurance monitors and sanitation reviews
- supervises the delivery and retrieval of patient trays which includes interacting with members of the multidisciplinary team
- performs other related duties as assigned
