Job Description
PIH Health is a prominent nonprofit regional healthcare network that provides comprehensive medical services to approximately 3 million residents across Los Angeles County, Orange County, and the San Gabriel Valley. The organization is composed of several integral components including three major hospitals - PIH Health Downey Hospital, PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital, and PIH Health Whittier Hospital. In addition, it operates 37 outpatient medical office buildings, a multispecialty medical physician group, home healthcare services, hospice care, and specialized programs in heart health, cancer, digestive health, orthopedics, women's health, urgent care, and emergency services. Recognized nationally for excellence in patient care and experience, PIH Health has been honored by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) for its leadership in best practices, advanced technology, and quality healthcare services. The setting provides an opportunity for employees to work within a leading healthcare system dedicated to superior patient outcomes and community health.
This role focuses on supporting the nutritional and dietary needs of patients by helping in the preparation and service of patient meal trays. The position involves a variety of important tasks including serving hot and cold entrees, salads, sandwiches, desserts, and nutritional supplements to patients. A critical aspect of the role includes maintaining food safety standards by accurately taking and recording temperatures of hot and cold foods on the tray line, as well as monitoring dish machine and refrigerator/freezer temperatures. Additionally, the employee is responsible for loading patient trays into meal carts and delivering these to the nursing stations to ensure timely and efficient meal service. Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the work environment is also key, involving duties such as detailed cleaning, washing dishes, pots, and pans, and stock replenishment in work areas. Working on the patient tray line entails set-up, service, breakdown, and sanitation duties that all contribute to compliance with HACCP food safety standards. The role requires flexibility as additional tasks related to food service may be assigned as needed. This position offers a competitive salary range of $21.00 to $28.35 per hour for day shift work at the facility located at 12401 Washington Blvd, zip code 90602. Ideal applicants will have a capacity to follow standardized recipes and portion control protocols, a background in food service experience is preferred though not mandatory, and the ability to communicate effectively in English is essential. This opportunity presents a meaningful role in supporting patient care through nutritional service while being part of an esteemed healthcare community that values dedication to quality and safety.
