The role offered is that of a Food Services Worker in a hospital kitchen setting, reporting to the Food Services Manager. This is a hands-on position responsible for preparing and serving food for both regular and modified diets designed to meet medical prescriptions. The Food Services Worker will follow a detailed cycle menu and patient census data to deliver accurate meal portions and ensure meal attractiveness and safety. The position involves not only food preparation but also operating dishwashing machinery, cleaning kitchen and dining areas, and assisting cooks with various duties. Maintaining personal hygiene and complying with safe food handling practices are critical to this role. The worker will be expected to handle moderate to heavy physical tasks, such as lifting heavy pots or pushing carts, and must function efficiently under consistent supervisory guidance. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • prior experience in food preparation preferred

Job Duties

  • Following the cycle menu, patient census, number of personnel and guest meals
  • prepares foods such as toast, tea and coffee
  • prepares salads and desserts
  • cleans and prepares vegetables and other foods for cooks
  • schedules food preparation and cooking to have all items ready for service at the specified time
  • checks all food for proper temperature and quality after meal service
  • monitors accuracy of modified diets and ensures trays are attractive
  • operates dishwashing machinery
  • removes refuse from kitchen areas
  • sweeps, mops and scrubs kitchen, dining and storage areas
  • washes and scours pots, pans and cooking utensils
  • gathers, cleans, stacks and washes dishes and silverware
  • maintains high personal hygiene standards and safe food handling practices
  • participates in maintaining cleaning schedules of equipment and food storage areas
  • checks refrigerator thermometers and reports temperature variations
  • follows approved safety and fire regulations
  • receives, checks and stores food deliveries promptly when designated
  • assists cooks
  • maintains regular attendance
  • performs other duties as required
