Job Description
The hiring establishment is a healthcare facility that prioritizes exceptional patient care and efficient food service operations within its various departments. As a reputable healthcare institution, it provides nutritious meals and necessary nourishment to patients, ensuring their dietary needs and preferences are met in a timely and professional manner. The facility employs a dedicated Food Service Worker whose role is crucial to maintaining smooth meal service logistics and supporting overall healthcare operations. This healthcare provider is committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and patient satisfaction through its food service team.
The role of the Food Service Worker is dynamic and involves a blend of customer service, meal preparation, delivery, and sanitation duties. The successful candidate will inform customers about the services available and assist them with their service requests while maintaining close communication with the Support Center, Coordinator, and Diet Office. Continuous coordination ensures that specific patient needs, expectations, and dietary requirements are communicated and fulfilled effectively.
Key responsibilities include preparing meal service lines, assembling and delivering patient trays and routine food orders, including the use of food carts to nursing units. The Food Service Worker also assembles patient nourishments as instructed and requisitions and stores necessary supplies to keep the work areas adequately stocked. Cleaning and maintaining work areas such as conference rooms and patient areas is part of the role, alongside managing waste disposal duties, including food waste and recyclables, and operating compactors as needed.
Additionally, the Food Service Worker is expected to participate actively in educational programs, inservice training, and department meetings to maintain knowledge of equipment operations, cleaning procedures, and sanitation standards including Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) practices. The position demands adherence to cleanliness and organizational standards to ensure a safe and hygienic food service environment.
Physical demands include frequent lifting, bending, stooping, walking, or standing, and occasionally assuming awkward positions when handling heavy objects weighing up to 35 pounds with proper assistance or equipment. The work environment ranges from indoor kitchen and tray line settings to outdoor exposure under various weather conditions. The role operates within OSHA Risk Category II, which involves minimal exposure to blood or body fluids but requires adherence to safety protocols in case exposure occurs.
This position requires 2-3 weeks of on-the-job training, emphasizing the importance of following instructions closely and effective communication skills. Ideal candidates demonstrate the ability to service customers, prepare and assemble meals, requisition supplies, and maintain hygienic work areas efficiently. This role is vital to ensuring that patients receive nutritious meals promptly, contributing to their overall care and recovery.
