The Food Service Worker role at Palmdale Regional Medical Center is a vital position responsible for ensuring that patients receive nutritious and appropriately prepared meals in accordance with their medical needs and dietary restrictions. This position serves a diverse patient population ranging from infants and toddlers to geriatric patients, all requiring tailored nutritional care overseen by physicians and directly supervised by dietitians. The Food Service Worker is expected to demonstrate strong knowledge and skills in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food and meals not only for patients but also for cafeteria services and special events.
The successful candidate will be capable of following detailed recipes and instructions to ensure that each meal meets specific dietary orders and modified diet requirements while adhering to strict sanitary guidelines. Essential cooking techniques including baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming various foods such as meats and fish are crucial to the job. Planning and scheduling cooking operations, managing inventory on a first-in-first-out basis, and maintaining cleanliness and order in the work area are also key responsibilities.
In addition to food preparation, the Food Service Worker must be able to carve portions of meats and fowl for individual servings, serve meals on tray lines when needed, and properly label meals prepared for modified diets. It is imperative to report any issues related to unsatisfactory, spoiled, outdated, or poor-quality food products promptly to supervisors or dietitians.
