This specific job opportunity is for the position of Food Service Worker NA-02 located at Camp Pendleton, CA. This role is essential in maintaining an organized and efficient food service operation, supporting the nutritional needs of Marines and their families. The Food Service Worker will perform a variety of tasks that involve setting up food service counters and dining areas with hot and cold food items, including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter, and beverages. The position requires serving food cafeteria-style or family-style, ensuring portions are standard and uniform, and preparing simple meals like sandwiches and salads. Additionally, this role involves making coffee in large urns with proper timing and brewing methods and packing box lunches for patrons.
The Food Service Worker will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and operation of dishwashing equipment, including monitoring water and detergent levels, cleaning interior parts regularly, and restoring order to the room. Physical tasks such as unloading food delivery trucks and moving heavy garbage cans are also part of the job. This role demands a strong commitment to excellent customer service, with an emphasis on courtesy, communication, problem-solving, and a friendly demeanor when interacting with customers.
Safety and sanitation are paramount in this position. The worker must adhere to safety regulations, use required safety equipment, observe cleanliness, and follow proper food handling procedures to prevent contamination and ensure the wellbeing of all customers. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old if serving alcohol
- Ability to lift and carry up to 45 lbs independently and over 45 lbs with assistance
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Physical ability to perform light to moderate physical effort such as standing and walking for extended periods
- Must adhere to safety and sanitation regulations
- Must be able to communicate effectively and provide courteous customer service
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Must pass criminal background check and National Agency Check and Inquiries
- Registration with Selective Service System required for males born after December 31, 1959
- Must comply with drug-free workplace policies

Job Duties
- Set up food service counters, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter, and beverages
- Serve food cafeteria-style to diners
- Serve tables family-style by placing dishes of food on tables and refilling as necessary
- Make coffee in large urns according to the number of servings desired with responsibility for timing and brewing
- Make a variety of fruit and vegetable salads such as fresh fruit, tossed green, tomato and lettuce, and lettuce wedges
- Serve food in standard portions by placing uniform amounts in small dishes or glasses in prescribed quantities
- Make simple sandwiches
- Pack box lunches
- Maintain water and detergent levels in dishwasher, remove strainer pans, inspection doors, etc., for proper cleaning of dishwasher inside and out, remove calcium deposits as required, and restore room to orderliness
- Unload food from delivery trucks and move heavy garbage cans
- Provide world class customer service with an emphasis on courtesy, assist customers and communicate positively in a friendly manner, acknowledge customers, smile, and make eye contact, ask questions to determine, verify and solve problems, check for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services, take action to solve problems quickly, alert the higher-level supervisor or proper point of contact when problems arise
- Adhere to safety regulations and standards, use required safety equipment, observe cleanliness and proper food handling procedures, promptly report any observed workplace hazards, injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor
- Adhere to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment
- Perform other related duties as required
