The Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center, located in Spokane, Washington, is a leading healthcare facility dedicated to providing exceptional medical and supportive services to our nation's veterans. As part of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the center is committed to delivering high-quality care and ensuring the well-being of veterans and their families. The facility is well-regarded for its comprehensive healthcare programs and its dedication to creating a supportive environment for both patients and staff alike. The Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center operates various specialized services including primary care, mental health, rehabilitation, and nutrition and food services, playing a vital role in improving the quality of life for veterans in the region.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Lead Food Service Worker to join the Nutrition & Food Services team. This position is classified as an 'OTHER' employment type and emphasizes hands-on food service operations within a healthcare setting. The Lead Food Service Worker will play a crucial role in ensuring that all meals provided to veterans and staff meet stringent quality, safety, and nutritional standards. The role requires someone who possesses the knowledge, skills, and proven ability to perform a variety of food service tasks effectively, while also providing leadership and guidance to other food service workers.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate dexterity and a strong commitment to safety in all food service activities. Responsibilities will include interpreting instructions and specifications related to food preparation, storage, and equipment use, as well as leading or supervising other food service personnel to maintain efficient, high-quality operations. The position demands proficiency in handling materials, technical food service practices, and proper use and maintenance of related tools and equipment. A key part of this role also involves promoting and adhering to exemplary work practices, ensuring compliance with established food safety standards and organizational policies.
Applicants must present evidence of training or experience that reflects their capability to fulfill these duties, supported by detailed descriptions of their relevant skills and prior responsibilities. This position values a combination of both paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer activities, that contribute to the competency and knowledge required in food service operations. The role does not have an educational substitute requirement, placing a greater emphasis on practical experience and proven ability.
Qualified applicants will begin to be referred to the hiring manager starting Monday, June 15th, 2026. The job announcement will remain open until the position is filled or the closing date arrives, providing a timely and competitive selection process. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a structured and mission-driven environment, passionate about serving veterans, and committed to maintaining the highest food service standards in a medical center setting. Joining the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center means becoming part of a dedicated community focused on veteran health and well-being, where professional growth and meaningful contribution align seamlessly.
Overall, this Lead Food Service Worker position offers an opportunity to impact the lives of veterans directly by ensuring their nutritional needs are met with care and professionalism, backed by a supportive and resourceful healthcare team.
