The Food Service Worker II position at Texas Health and Human Services Commission is a full-time role based at Terrell State Hospital in Terrell, Texas. The role entails routine journey-level food service work primarily involving food preparation, portioning, serving, and maintaining sanitary conditions in both the central kitchen and satellite serving areas. The position offers a monthly salary range from $2,639.75 to $3,404.91 and operates on day shifts with additional evening shifts as a second shift. This nonexempt position requires up to 10 percent travel and does not offer telework options. The Food Service Worker II performs critical functions such as preparing food for therapeutic diets, following federal and state food safety guidelines including HACCP, and maintaining sanitation standards for kitchen equipment and dining areas. Employee responsibilities extend to receiving food supplies, documentation, and helping train new kitchen staff. The role requires moderate supervision but expects employees to use some independent judgment and initiative. Job Requirements

  • must be at least 18 years of age
  • twelve months of experience in food service work required
  • must possess or obtain food safety certification within six months of employment
  • must pass fingerprint criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen
  • must pass registry checks including client abuse/neglect
  • must comply with immunization policies
  • must have valid Texas driver license if driving required or obtain within 90 days
  • males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
  • flexibility to work overtime or extended hours

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • twelve months of experience in food service work required
  • ability to prepare and serve food
  • knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation regulations
  • skills in operating and sanitizing food service equipment
  • ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • ability to maintain accurate records

Job Duties
