This role operates on a day shift schedule with additional first-shift days, and although telework eligibility is not available, the position requires flexibility for weekend, holiday, and occasional extended hours. The Food Service Worker II plays a crucial role in a supportive environment serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who may be medically fragile or have behavioral challenges. These state-supported living centers provide campus-based direct care and services across 13 locations statewide, prioritizing wellness and independence for all residents.
The Food Service Worker II position involves performing moderately complex food service duties, including the preparation, portioning, distribution, and serving of regular and therapeutic dietary meals under general supervision. The role requires compliance with rigid food safety standards, including federal, state, and HACCP guidelines, to ensure the health and safety of residents. Food Service Workers II are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of food service equipment, workspaces, dishes, utensils, pots, and pans. In addition, the role may include training and supervising other food service aides to uphold a knowledgeable and efficient staff. Employees must have the ability to operate within a fast-paced kitchen environment, handle deliveries, maintain accurate paperwork, and participate actively in disaster response or continuity of operations plans as required. The position demands physical capabilities such as lifting a minimum of 25 pounds and the endurance to stand or walk on hard floors for extended periods while working in variable temperature conditions.
Candidates for this position should have prior experience or education related to food service, including paid or unpaid work, or equivalent qualifications such as a high school diploma or equivalent. Preference is given to individuals with six months of food service experience. The role is critical to maintaining the quality and efficiency of meal operations within the Denton State Supported Living Center and requires individuals who can follow both written and oral instructions, work cooperatively with coworkers and residents, and comply with stringent hygiene and safety protocols. Job Requirements
- One of the following is required: paid or unpaid experience in food service work
- or graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent
- must be at least 18 years of age
- must pass fingerprint criminal background check
- must pass pre-employment drug screen
- must pass registry checks including Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct
- males aged 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
- must comply with random drug testing policies
- must be willing to work weekends and holidays
- able to work extended or unusual hours as needed
- must follow agency leave policies
- must be able to lift minimum of 25 pounds
- ability to stand or walk on hard floors for extended periods

Job Duties
