Job Description
The Midland Independent School District (Midland ISD) is a well-established educational organization committed to providing quality education and support services to its diverse student population. The position of Food Service Worker I is a non-exempt, temporary role spanning 181 days annually and classified under the Aux PG-1 pay grade. Reporting directly to the Food Service Manager, the individual in this role is an essential team member in the school kitchen environment. This position primarily involves preparing and serving food, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation areas and equipment, and assisting other food service workers. While quantity food production experience is recommended, it is not a mandatory requirement, making this an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals interested in working in food services within an educational setting.
This role demands a keen attention to detail and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include preparing fruits, vegetables, salads, beverages, and assisting with cooking and portioning of meats, main dishes, and baked goods. The Food Service Worker I is also responsible for maintaining accurate production records, managing inventory, and performing thorough cleaning duties to ensure a safe and hygienic kitchen environment. Critical to success in this position is the capacity to follow both verbal and written instructions, work collaboratively with team members, and contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
The job requires the ability to perform moderate to strenuous physical activities such as lifting up to 35 pounds, standing for extended periods, reaching, bending, and using various kitchen tools and equipment safely. The candidate must also meet specific physical and mental health standards, including the capability to work under stressful conditions, maintain emotional stability, and communicate effectively in English. The Food Service Worker I must possess a valid Texas Driver License and adhere to the district's vehicle safety policies when applicable.
The work environment involves occasional exposure to heat, cold, noise, hazardous chemicals, and operating a range of kitchen and cleaning equipment. Job Duties
- Prepare fruits, vegetables, salads and beverages as assigned by Food Service Manager or Managing Cashier
- assist other Food Service Workers in preparing foods for the cafeteria including cleaning, cutting, slicing or cooking meats, poultry, seafood and cheese
- preparation of breads or baked goods
- weighing and measuring ingredients
- carry supplies, equipment and food to and from storage, preparation and service areas
- serve correct portions on serving line or replenish the line
- complete production records, inventories and other documentation as assigned
- clean own working area and other areas as assigned
- assist in the orientation or training of Food Service Workers as assigned
- perform all other job-related duties as assigned by Food Service Manager
