Their mission revolves around delivering exceptional customer service, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment, and supporting the university’s overall commitment to excellence. The department prides itself on crafting enjoyable dining experiences for students, faculty, staff, and visitors alike, ensuring that every meal served meets the highest standards of quality and satisfaction.

The Food Service Worker I position at Campus Dining Services plays a vital role in maintaining the smooth operation of dining services across the university. This role focuses on basic food preparation, service, and sanitation tasks, ensuring that each food item is prepared according to instructions and meets proper food handling standards. A significant responsibility is assisting in maintaining clean, sanitary, safe, and secure working areas, from service and preparation zones to dining and dishwashing areas.

In this role, the Food Service Worker I sets up service and preparation areas as assigned, assists in completing Serving Line Worksheets, and ensures that all areas are clean and well-stocked throughout the service period. Additionally, the role involves directing, helping train, and assisting student employees in food preparation, service, dishwashing, and pot-and-pan washing operations, thereby contributing to an efficient team environment.

The position demands a strong commitment to customer service, aiming to meet and exceed the department's service objectives. Employees in this role support and promote the department’s vision of excellence and a passion for people. The shift hours vary and are scheduled by managers depending on service needs, making the position ideal for those who seek a flexible work environment within a dynamic, fast-paced setting.

Candidates interested in this role should note that a job offer is contingent upon passing a physical examination to confirm the ability to perform the essential functions, including handling and lifting heavy kitchen utensils and supplies. Preferred qualifications include a ServSafe Certification, which can be acquired within approximately six months of hire, underscoring the department’s focus on food safety and quality.

The anticipated hiring range for the Food Service Worker I position is $15 to $16.32 hourly, classified under Grade GGS B. Although this position is not eligible for University benefits, individuals may opt to participate in the Tax Deferred Annuity Plan (403b).
