Texas Health Center for Diagnostics & Surgery is an 18-bed physician-owned hospital located in Plano, Texas, serving the residents of Collin, Dallas, and Denton counties. The Food Service Worker I position within the Food and Nutrition Services department at Texas Health Center for Diagnostics & Surgery offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, high-volume team dedicated to exceptional patient care. This full-time, day-shift role demands commitment for 40 hours a week from Tuesday through Saturday, with shifts running from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The department prides itself on producing high-quality, aesthetically appealing, and delicious food products by leveraging both creativity and comprehensive training. The Food Service Worker I plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of nutritious meals to patients and staff, ensuring safety, sanitation, and quality standards are rigorously upheld.

Key responsibilities encompass serving food in cafeteria and patient tray lines with excellent customer service skills, assembling and retrieving patient trays, documenting food delivery times and temperature checks, performing simple food assembly tasks such as preparing salads and garnishing, and maintaining cleanliness of equipment and the dining environment. The role requires knowledge of HACCP guidelines for food safety, including proper food labeling, temperature monitoring, and use of the FIFO (First In, First Out) system to manage food stock. In addition, the worker is expected to comply with OSHA safety standards and maintain hygiene standards in both personal practice and department sanitation. This position is vital to ensuring a safe, clean, and enjoyable dining experience which directly supports patient health and well-being.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 year of previous Food Service experience strongly preferred
  • FHC - Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days of employment
  • ability to work 40 hours weekly, days, Tuesday to Saturday, 7:00am to 3:30pm

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Serves food on the cafeteria and patient tray lines, utilizing good customer skills when serving patrons
  • assembles, delivers and retrieves patient trays
  • documents food delivery times and food tallies
  • performs other simple record keeping, i.e. temperature checks on equipment and food
  • reports variances from standards to supervisor
  • performs simple food assembly such as preparing salads, portioning and garnishing foods according to instruction
  • cleans and sanitizes equipment, wares, walls, and floors routinely
  • washes and sanitizes dishes, pots and pans as well as all cooking utensils and cooking equipment, according to department standards and procedures
  • labels and dates foods according to HACCP standards
  • collects and delivers floor stock utilizing FIFO
  • delivers between meal nourishments and late trays according to departmental standards
  • maintains assigned areas and equipment in a safe, clean, neat, and orderly manner to meet/exceed both department and TDH sanitation standards in both department sanitation and personal hygiene
  • disposes of trash and garbage according to standards and procedures
  • follows clean as you go as well as proper hand hygiene
  • ability to learn HACCP sanitation guidelines and follow for safe food handling
  • knows and performs proper procedure for taking and recording temperatures of food items, both raw and cooked and refrigerated units
  • demonstrates and performs procedures when temperatures are inadequate according to standards
  • understands and utilizes the FIFO system of food production
  • ability to follow/learn OSHA safety guidelines
