As a Food Service Worker at UMC Health System, you will be an integral part of the Food & Nutrition Services team, playing a vital role in ensuring that patients, staff, and visitors receive nutritious and well-prepared meals. This position involves a variety of responsibilities related to food preparation, cooking, cleaning, and food delivery. You will work closely with supervisors and team members to support the smooth operation of kitchen and dining services within the facility.
The Food Service Worker must handle daily assignments that include planning and preparing menu options for patients, cafeterias, and catering services. This involves preparing both hot and cold entrees, setting up serving lines, maintaining stock levels, and ensuring food safety standards are consistently met. The role requires operating and maintaining kitchen equipment such as dishwashers, stoves, coolers, and ice makers in a clean and safe manner. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in cafeteria sitting rooms and beverage areas is essential.
Documentation and adherence to food safety protocols are critical aspects of this role. The Food Service Worker will be responsible for proper logging, charting, and following production sheets to comply with food safety and sanitation regulations. The role demands a proactive approach to maintaining all sanitation standards within the Food & Nutrition Services department.
This position requires teamwork as well as the ability to work independently. Strong communication skills are important since the Food Service Worker interacts closely with multiple departments across the UMC Health System, and occasionally with external vendors and patients. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to remain on your feet for extended periods. The working environment involves varying indoor temperatures and minimal exposure to cleaning chemicals.

Job Requirements
- Food Handlers Permit required within 90 days of hire
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods

Job Duties
- Assist in planning and preparing menu options including hot and cold entrees for patients cafeteria and catering
- Set up and maintain serving line timely ensuring proper stock service ware and acceptable temperature
- Operate and maintain all kitchen equipment including dishwasher conventional stove cooler ice maker efficiently and safely
- Maintain cafeteria sitting rooms and beverage areas ensuring neatness and sanitization
- Ensure proper logging charting production sheets and other documentation for food safety and sanitation adherence
- Maintain and adhere to all sanitation standards
- Perform all other duties as assigned within Food and Nutrition Services
