Job Description
The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) School Lunch Program Division located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, is dedicated to providing nutritious and accessible food services to the military community and their families. DoDEA plays a crucial role in supporting the health and wellness of students and personnel through a comprehensive school lunch program that ensures quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. This division operates within the Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) program, which follows specific federal wage schedules and pays overtime, premiums, and differentials as applicable. Being part of the NAF system offers employees the opportunity to serve their community in a mission-driven environment while benefiting from competitive employment conditions and a range of professional development opportunities.
This position, Food Service Worker, situated within the DoDEA School Lunch Program Division at Fort Bragg, is an essential role focused on food service provision in a fast-paced and customer-oriented setting. The Food Service Worker plays a vital role in assisting with the preparation, presentation, and serving of light food items that are offered for sale to patrons, particularly in a snack bar or resort property context. The key responsibilities revolve around ensuring that food items and beverages are efficiently replenished and served, maintaining a clean and sanitary environment, and contributing to smooth operation of food service areas.
A Food Service Worker at Fort Bragg primarily operates behind the counter in food service or snack bar operations, setting up and replenishing hot and cold drinks, specialty items, and associated condiments. The role often involves serving light food items that require little or no preparation directly to patrons, including from a service cart at a beachside resort-type location. Expeditor duties are also significant, wherein the worker delivers food to customers or transports food to buffet areas, ensuring prompt service and customer satisfaction.
Maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the assigned area is a critical part of the role, consistent with health and safety standards. The job requires attention to detail, adherence to food safety principles, and the ability to work efficiently within a team-driven environment. This position is a non-supervisory role but demands reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to excellence.
Employment in this role is subject to various conditions such as verification of identity, eligibility, successful background checks including Child Care Tier 1 investigations, and compliance with government policies. A probationary period may be required. Candidates must be within the local or surrounding commuting area and meet the criteria set forth by the hiring agency. This job supports the military community and contributes to the broader mission of the Department of Defense through service, dedication, and professionalism.
