Job Description

The Dining and Retail department at Queen's Medical Center is dedicated to providing diverse food and beverage options to hospital staff and visitors. Queen's Medical Center, located in Hawai'i, is widely recognized for its commitment to quality health care services and its mission to honor the legacy of Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV. This esteemed medical center is a key health care provider in the region, known for compassionate care, excellence, and respect for all individuals. The Dining and Retail department plays a vital role in maintaining the well-being and satisfaction of the hospital community by offering a range of convenient dining choices throughout the facility. This includes a full-service cafeteria open every day of the week from early morning at 6:15 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., three coffee shops that serve prepared foods and Starbucks hot and cold beverages, and a roving food service cart that travels across the hospital to deliver refreshments directly to healthcare providers amid their busy schedules.

The role within the Dining and Retail department is multifaceted and customer-focused, involving direct interaction with customers to positively impact their daily experience through providing meals and beverages that meet high standards of quality and taste. Employees in this department are entrusted with responsibilities ranging from food preparation and cooking to serving food, making specialty coffee drinks, cash handling, washing dishes, and managing food transportation services. The department welcomes applicants with varied experience levels and offers training for multiple roles, emphasizing teamwork, attention to safety standards, and efficient service delivery. This position demands physical stamina and flexibility, as it involves routine tasks such as pushing and pulling carts, lifting items up to 75 pounds, working in varied environments including cold storage and potentially slippery conditions, and handling sharp tools.

This employment opportunity invites individuals who are enthusiastic about food service and customer care, regardless of prior experience, as training is provided. Working in this role means contributing to the smooth operation of essential food services that support hospital staff and improve the overall environment of care. Employees embody the core values of compassion, aloha, respect, and excellence that govern the institution's mission. Queen's Medical Center is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds. The role offers stable employment in a reputable healthcare environment dedicated to serving the people of Hawai'i with distinction and care. The rewarding nature of this job is amplified by the direct impact employees have in assisting healthcare workers who rely on timely meals and refreshments to perform their critical duties effectively. Thus, this position is ideal for individuals seeking to join a dynamic team in a respected medical setting, contribute to community well-being, and grow professionally in the food service industry.
