The Food Service Worker role at Northwest Texas Healthcare System entails significant responsibilities vital to patient care and sanitation within the food service department. Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED preferred
- Must successfully complete the pre-employment assessment
- Prefer successful completion of Step One of the Certified Dietary Manager course
- Must be able to read and comprehend
- Typing and basic computer skills preferred
- Ability to communicate with staff, physicians, support agencies, and vendors
- Ability to remain calm under stress
- Physical ability including bending, kneeling, crouching, twisting, lifting weights between 10-30 lbs, grasping, fine hand-eye coordination, pushing and pulling, prolonged standing or sitting
- Ability to perform quantitative mathematical operations
- Must tolerate exposure to cold in refrigerators and freezers, fumes from chemicals, cooking odors, gases and odors from patient rooms
- Potential hazards include cuts from knives and meat slicers and burns from cooking and heating surfaces
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED preferred
- Successful completion of pre-employment assessment required
- Prefer completion of Step One of the Certified Dietary Manager course for Food Service Worker
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions

- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, vendors, and others

- Physical ability to perform tasks including bending, kneeling, lifting 10-30 lbs, grasping, and prolonged standing or sitting
Job Duties
- Delivers food trays to patient’s room and provides service including pouring beverages and arranging trays
- Checks patient trays before leaving the kitchen to ensure accuracy with no more than one error per day
- Gathers and delivers floor stock and rotates stock in the nurse unit refrigerator, discarding outdated products
- Washes dishes, pans, and utensils for patients, cafeteria, and catering
- Sanitizes patient carts daily
- Empties trash in the food service area
- Ensures compliance with state, Medicare, and Joint Commission regulations
- Regularly attends and actively participates in department meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned
