Job Description

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (Wright-Patt AFB) is a prominent military installation renowned for its pivotal role in aerospace research, development, and logistics support of the United States Air Force. At the heart of this dynamic base is the Club Operations, which provides community services and leisure amenities for military personnel, civilians, and authorized guests. One of the vital positions contributing to the Club Operations is that of a Beverage Server, responsible for crafting and serving a variety of coffee and espresso-based beverages to customers. This role is classified as Non-appropriated Fund (NAF), meaning it operates on funds generated through the club activities rather than federal appropriations, emphasizing a customer service-driven approach in a semi-commercial environment.

The Beverage Server position involves preparing and serving drinks such as Lattes, Cappuccinos, Espressos, Americanos, and a selection of other popular beverages ordered by patrons. The job demands frequent physical effort, including lifting or moving items weighing up to 40 pounds, as well as standing or walking for extended periods, alongside activities like stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Employees must maintain sanitary standards in food and beverage handling, clean equipment, and the work area to ensure a safe and pleasant environment. Excellent customer service skills are a must, with the ability to follow simple recipe cards and clearly communicate with customers and team members.

This role is open to all applicants regardless of background, with special consideration given to individuals who qualify under various preference eligibilities such as Business Based Action, Military Spouse Preference, Veteran status, and Transition Hiring Preference. The position requires a thorough background check and a successful pre-employment physical examination to ensure compliance with security and health standards. Applicants should have the ability to read, speak, and understand English proficiently, use hand tools for cleaning, and operate simple machines necessary for the job.

Historically, the position does not permit substitution of education for experience, requiring applicants to demonstrate hands-on experience or skills relevant to the role. Qualifying experience includes the capacity to follow instructions, sequence tasks reliably, and maintain physical stamina for the demands of the post. This position might require working a non-traditional schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the operational hours of the club facilities on the base.

Employment for this role is classified as OTHER, falling outside typical federal employment categories but maintaining strict adherence to operational standards at Wright-Patt AFB. The environment is fast-paced and service-oriented, perfect for those who thrive in customer-facing roles and enjoy contributing to a vibrant community setting. Overall, this opportunity offers a unique blend of a supportive workplace within a military base and the chance to refine customer service expertise in the food and beverage sector.
