Job Description
This position is a Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) role assigned to the 92 Force Support Squadron, Youth Center, Fairchild Air Force Base (AFB), Washington. The 92 Force Support Squadron is dedicated to providing quality support services to military members, their families, and the community stationed at Fairchild AFB. As one of the key entities responsible for morale, welfare, and recreational activities, the squadron operates several facilities, including the Youth Center, which delivers engaging programs and services for young people and their families.
The Youth Center serves as a vibrant hub for youth activities and community engagement, fostering a safe and positive environment where children and teenagers can participate in educational and recreational programs. Being a part of the 92 Force Support Squadron means contributing directly to the well-being and support system of Air Force families, impacting the morale and quality of life of those who serve.
The role in question involves setting up cafeteria lines, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands stocked with a variety of hot and cold food items. These include meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter, and beverages. The successful candidate will serve food cafeteria-style, ensuring an efficient, clean, and welcoming dining experience for patrons. This duty requires attention to detail, adherence to food safety regulations, and a friendly service attitude to promote a positive atmosphere.
This Flexible (Intermittent) position offers guaranteed work hours ranging from 0 to 40 hours per week, depending on the facility's needs. It is ideal for individuals seeking flexible employment opportunities possibly alongside other commitments. The job involves physical tasks such as lifting up to 40 pounds frequently, standing and walking for extended periods, and performing tasks that may involve pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, and reaching. The work environment includes exposure to heat, steam, noise, and potentially slippery floors, necessitating safety awareness and careful movement.
Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, with preferences considered for Business-Based Action, Military Spouses, Veterans, Spouses/Widows/Parents of Veterans, and those eligible for Transition Hiring Preference. The position requires the ability to follow simple oral instructions, skill in using hand tools for cleaning, operation of simple machines, and knowledge of sanitation standards for food handling and cleaning. The role does not allow education to substitute for experience, emphasizing practical competencies and prior related work or volunteer roles.
Overall, this position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the supportive framework at Fairchild AFB, gain valuable experience in food service and sanitation, and work within a community-focused environment while enjoying flexible scheduling.
