  • U.S. citizenship
  • suitability for federal employment as determined by background investigation

  • selective service registration for males born after 12/31/1959

  • ability to work varied hours including weekends and holidays

  • ability to lift and move items as required in food service duties

  • Demonstrated ability to perform tasks related to food service operations
  • knowledge of food preparation and serving techniques

Job Duties

  • Sets up assigned station with the correct supplies and food items
  • serves food cafeteria style by placing uniform portions of food on customers' plates
  • breaks down and cleans the station when assigned
  • sets up dining room tables for service, place food and beverages on tables, and replenish items as necessary
  • delivers meal trays to patients' bedsides and reports comments or complaints
  • prepares beverages according to the number of servings required
  • prepares fresh fruit, cold salads, dressings, sandwich fillings, cold sandwiches, and simple cold desserts
  • sorts, washes, peels, and cuts cold foods
  • assists cooks in food preparation by weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients
  • prepares uncooked food items such as sandwich spreads and salad dressings
  • prepares boxed/to-go meals
  • identifies discrepancies between prescribed diets and menu items
  • decides what food items to serve for the most common diets
  • performs heavy-duty cleaning tasks in food service areas
  • separates food waste and recyclables from dishes, glasses, and silverware
  • unloads food/tray delivery carts
  • stores sanitized dishes, glasses, and silverware
  • scrapes, soaks, scours, and scrubs cookware and utensils
  • moves garbage cans during trash collection and disposal
  • performs other duties as assigned to meet medical center needs
