Established as part of a global evangelical movement, The Salvation Army is committed to meeting human needs without discrimination through compassionate ministry grounded in biblical principles. The Harbor Light Center serves a unique demographic, including individuals facing mental illness, substance abuse issues, and those exhibiting behaviors considered inappropriate in conventional settings. Employees here are expected to engage professionally and empathetically, adhering to the treatment environment policies and maintaining a supportive atmosphere aligned with the mission of The Salvation Army.

The role of Food Service Worker at Harbor Light is crucial in supporting the daily operation of the facility by ensuring the efficient and hygienic preparation, service, and cleanup of meals provided to clients. Reporting directly to the Food Service Manager, this position is classified under pay grade 201 with a salary range between $16.20 and $20.00 per hour, reflecting the importance of skilled culinary support within this institutional food service setting. A typical day involves setting up the steam table, coffee and drink stations, preparing salads and fruits according to quality standards, timely meal service, and proper management of leftovers. Additionally, this role requires diligent maintenance of cleanliness and sanitation standards of all kitchen and dining areas, as well as effective documentation of cleaning tasks.

Candidates will find this role demanding yet rewarding, requiring adherence to stringent food safety practices including possession of a valid Food Handlers Certificate. The position demands physical activity such as lifting up to 50 pounds and navigating stairs, alongside the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Moreover, the Food Service Worker must exhibit flexibility, positivity, and initiative, along with robust interpersonal and communication skills to engage with a diverse client base in a respectful and professional manner. Working at Harbor Light also entails working collaboratively within a team to support the overall mission of The Salvation Army and to contribute to a respectful, supportive environment that fosters recovery and dignity for all served.

Joining The Salvation Army means becoming part of a worldwide organization renowned for its charitable contributions and commitment to serving the vulnerable. The organization’s mission is embodied daily at Harbor Light, where employees play a vital role in improving quality of life for individuals in need. In addition to competitive pay, eligible employees benefit from a comprehensive package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement plans, and paid time off. The Salvation Army is an Equal Opportunity Employer, welcoming a diverse workforce including veterans, individuals with disabilities, and those impacted by the justice system.
