Job Description
Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) is a long-standing organization, having served America’s Veterans since 1946. As a program office within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VCS plays a vital role in supporting the largest healthcare system in the United States by delivering benefits and services to Veterans enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System. The organization is dedicated to enhancing the comfort and well-being of Veterans, their families, caregivers, and VA employees by providing reasonably priced merchandise and essential services across its network of retail markets and cafes.
VCS operates with a clear mission to prioritize the needs of Veterans, ensuring a fulfilling workplace that supports growth and work-life balance. The team members at VCS are passionate about serving those who have served the country, embodying values of respect, dedication, and excellence in customer service. The company fosters a supportive environment for its employees, especially Veterans, making it a uniquely rewarding place to build a career.
Currently, VCS is hiring part-time Food Service Workers for its locations at the West Palm Beach, FL VA Medical Center. These team members will play an essential role in providing exceptional service within fast-paced environments such as cafes and retail food markets. The Food Service Worker role involves preparing a variety of food and beverages, including coffee drinks like lattes and cappuccinos, smoothies, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, burritos, and other popular menu offerings.
Employees in this role maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation, strictly adhering to health and safety regulations to ensure a safe workplace. Attention to detail is critical as Food Service Workers store food items correctly to preserve freshness and prevent spoilage. The role demands physical endurance, as workers will be exposed to varying temperatures and are required to stand, walk, bend frequently, and lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
This position offers a starting hourly wage of $18.03 and invites applicants looking for meaningful work that balances professional growth with personal life. VCS values excellent customer service skills and a commitment to the mission of serving America’s Heroes. Through a 1-year probationary period, new hires’ contributions will be assessed to ensure their employment benefits the public interest and supports the organizational goals of the agency.
VCS emphasizes the importance of community health by requiring participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program for all healthcare personnel, highlighting its dedication to the safety and health of both employees and Veterans they serve.
As part of the VCS team, employees can access competitive benefits, including a Child Care Subsidy Program, Public Transportation Benefits such as bus passes, annual cost of living pay increases, comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage, vacation and sick leave including 11 paid Federal holidays, and a company contribution to a retirement savings plan.
Joining Veterans Canteen Service means becoming part of an organization that honors its commitment to Veterans while providing stable, rewarding employment opportunities that nurture a diverse and inclusive work culture.
