Job Description

This opportunity is with a well-established healthcare facility dedicated to providing exceptional nutritional and food services to patients and customers. Known for its commitment to quality and care, the center ensures that every meal served contributes to the overall health and satisfaction of its clientele. Operating in a highly regulated environment, the organization prioritizes food safety, hygiene, and customer service to support the wellness and recovery of patients as well as meet the expectations of cafeteria customers.

The role of Food Service Worker is integral to the smooth and efficient operation of the food service department. This position involves preparing and serving food and beverages, ensuring cleanliness and safety in all work areas, executing cashier duties, and assisting with the maintenance and organization of food storage and preparation environments. The Food Service Worker assembles and delivers food trays to medical center patients and meals on wheels clients, serves meals to cafeteria patrons, and adheres to specified recipes and menus to maintain nutritional standards. Given the healthcare setting, this role demands strict compliance with food handling and safety protocols, including the proper cleaning and sanitization of utensils, equipment, and surfaces.

In addition to food preparation, the Food Service Worker is responsible for processing menu and diet orders, accurately portioning meals, and arranging trays efficiently according to customer requests. This requires attention to detail and an understanding of special dietary needs, such as soft or liquid diets that may necessitate food blending. The role also includes important tasks related to sanitation such as sweeping and mopping floors, collection and disposal of garbage, and ensuring all equipment is clean and operating safely. The worker must routinely use protective equipment when handling chemicals and follow stringent safety rules to mitigate any hazards.

Cash handling is a secondary but critical aspect of the job, where the Food Service Worker processes transactions, verifies cash register receipts, and prepares financial reports related to cash register activity. Inventory management is another key responsibility, which involves receiving and justifying deliveries of food and supplies, organizing stock with proper rotation, and keeping storage areas clean and orderly. Overall, the role is physically demanding, requiring frequent movement, safe lifting of items up to 50 pounds, and the use of fine motor skills for handling tools and operating devices.

This position offers an engaging environment with a moderate noise level, occasionally exposed to hazardous conditions such as extreme temperatures, wet and humid environments, as well as mechanical parts and sharp implements. The Food Service Worker is required to wear safety footwear and consistently follow established safety protocols to maintain a risk-free workplace. Routine computer use is also expected to facilitate order processing and communication.

Ideal for a candidate looking to contribute to patient care through exceptional food service, this role is fundamental to the hospital or medical center’s mission of promoting health and comfort through nutrition. The position not only supports daily food services but also enhances patient satisfaction and operational efficiency within the food service department.
