Job Description
The Systemwide Cafeteria Worker position is an essential role within the educational community, serving schools throughout the district during the 2025-2026 school year. This position is dedicated to supporting the efficient operation of school cafeterias, which play a crucial part in providing nutritious meals to students and staff. As part of a team committed to fostering a positive and safe dining environment, the cafeteria worker contributes to the day-to-day success of meal services and overall student wellbeing.
This role is specifically designed to work approximately four hours per day during the times when school is in session. The nature of the work demands dedication and adaptability, as cafeteria workers operate in a fast-paced environment where efficiency and accuracy are paramount. The position encompasses a variety of responsibilities including food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and handling the cash register for transactions. Experience in a commercial kitchen is a fundamental requirement, as it ensures the candidate is familiar with basic food handling processes and kitchen protocols to maintain a hygienic service area. Additionally, having ServSafe certification is considered an advantage, reflecting a commitment to food safety and regulatory compliance.
Candidates must demonstrate the physical ability to lift items weighing up to 40 pounds, indicative of the physical demands typical of the job in a dynamic cafeteria setting. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks effectively is crucial for success in this position. The role requires good communication skills, customer service orientation, and teamwork to liaise respectfully and professionally with students, school staff, and fellow cafeteria workers. From operating the cash register accurately to ensuring meals are served promptly and safely, this position plays a vital part in the nourishment and daily routine of students.
Beyond the daily tasks, the Systemwide Cafeteria Worker helps uphold the educational institution's commitment to promoting healthy eating habits and supporting the overall educational experience through quality food service. By maintaining cleanliness standards, assisting in inventory management, and contributing to a welcoming mealtime atmosphere, this role supports the broader goals of health, wellness, and community engagement within the schools. This position is ideal for individuals looking to make a tangible difference within the school system, offering a stable work schedule during the academic calendar and an opportunity to develop skills in food service operations.
