Job Description
The hiring establishment is a healthcare facility dedicated to providing exceptional care to its patients. Within this hospital setting, there is a critical role for individuals specialized in food service to ensure patients receive nutritious, timely, and hygienic meals that contribute to their overall recovery and well-being. This establishment values efficiency, cleanliness, and excellent service delivery, which is essential in a hospital environment where diet may be a part of patient treatment plans. The company emphasizes safety and compliance with health regulations, reflecting a commitment to high standards in food handling and patient care.
This particular role involves performing a variety of duties related to food service specifically tailored for hospital patients. Responsibilities include simple food preparation, serving meals, assembling and delivering food trays, washing dishes, and maintaining cleanliness within the food service area. The role also involves preparing and delivering late trays and supplemental feedings directly to nursing units, ensuring patients have access to proper nutrition throughout their hospital stay. Inventory management and delivery of floor stock to nursing units are also critical, maintaining the smooth operation of food services in the hospital setting.
The food service worker may engage in the preparation of bakery products, salads, and grilled foods, catering both to patients and the cafeteria. As needed, the role includes operating cash registers which supports cafeteria transactions. The work requires attention to detail, compliance with safety standards, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with nursing and other hospital staff to meet patient nutritional needs.
While previous experience in food service is preferred, the hospital provides opportunities for learning and growth within food services. The role requires good communication skills, including the ability to comprehend and follow safety instructions accurately. While bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are preferred, they are not mandatory. A Food Handlers card from the City-County Health Department must be obtained within 30 days of employment, highlighting the importance of food safety knowledge. A high school diploma or equivalent is also preferred but not compulsory, making this role accessible to a wide range of applicants interested in serving hospital patients through food service.
