Job Description
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, commonly known as "the Exchange," is a premier retail organization dedicated to serving the United States Army and Air Force members and their families stationed across the globe. As an $8 billion enterprise ranked among the top retailers, the Exchange operates a diverse range of retail establishments, including department stores, convenience stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and an internet shopping site. These outlets are strategically located on US Army and Air Force installations worldwide, including bases in Germany, Italy, England, Turkey, South Korea, Japan, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries where US troops are deployed. The Exchange's mission is to ensure that Soldiers and Airmen have access to quality US goods and services regardless of where they are stationed, contributing significantly to their quality of life and morale.
Joining the Exchange means becoming part of an award-winning team that is deeply committed to giving back to those who serve. A unique aspect of the Exchange is its commitment to reinvesting two-thirds of its earnings annually to benefit the military community, demonstrating a strong dedication to supporting Soldiers, Airmen, and their families. This organization not only values its customers but places a high priority on its employees, providing a supportive environment focused on career advancement, comprehensive training, flexible scheduling, and a competitive benefits package. Food employees at the Exchange have the opportunity to work across a variety of venues, from popular brands like Starbucks and Burger King to other food service options, allowing for a dynamic and engaging work experience.
The role of a Food Service Worker at the Exchange is instrumental in delivering a memorable customer experience. Food Service Workers are expected to greet customers warmly with friendly eye contact and a genuine smile, actively acknowledge every waiting customer promptly, and attentively listen to customer needs by asking appropriate follow-up questions. This ensures that every customer is offered products that suitably meet their specific desires and expectations. Workers are also responsible for completing transactions accurately and efficiently, engaging customers in polite and relevant conversations, and ensuring that every visitor has an extraordinary shopping and dining experience.
This position holds a special place within the Exchange's workforce because it not only emphasizes customer service but also highlights personal development and teamwork. The Exchange recognizes that employees can work anywhere, but chooses to work here to be part of something meaningful and rewarding. Employees receive ongoing support and the resources necessary for success, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration. By working at the Exchange, individuals join a team that cares deeply about both its customers and its staff, with a shared passion for serving those who serve the nation. Overall, the Food Service Worker role is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to contribute to a mission that extends beyond retail and food service into support for the military community on a global scale.
