The Food Service Worker position at McLaren Greater Lansing in Lansing, MI, offers both full-time and part-time opportunities for individuals passionate about making a difference in healthcare through exceptional food service. This role requires a commitment to supporting the nutritional and dietary needs of patients, visitors, and staff in a hospital setting. Working Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays, the schedule is designed to accommodate a balance between professional and personal life, with hours varying as needed to meet operational demands. The starting pay rate for this role is $16.00 per hour, reflecting competitive compensation for food service professionals in the healthcare industry.
The Food Service Worker will be responsible for a variety of essential tasks including preparation, presentation, and serving of food in accordance with strict health and safety standards. This includes washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding fruits and vegetables; weighing and measuring ingredients accurately; and ensuring proper storage of food using appropriate wrapping and rotation techniques to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage. The position also involves maintaining clean and sanitary work areas, equipment, and utensils to comply with all sanitation and safety regulations. Communication is key in this role as Food Service Workers serve customers in a friendly and efficient manner, address and resolve customer concerns, and ensure adherence to company service standards including inventory and cash control procedures. Job Requirements
- One year of customer service experience preferred
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and carrying food items
- Availability to work full time and rotate weekends and holidays
- Ability to follow safety and sanitation procedures
- Ability to provide friendly and efficient customer service
- Willingness to work varying hours as needed
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- One year of customer service experience preferred
- Ability to follow food safety and sanitation guidelines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Team-oriented attitude
- Basic math skills for measuring and portion control
Job Duties
- Prepares, presents and serves food as needed
- Performs prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting and seeding fruits and vegetables
- Weighs and measures designated ingredients
- Carries pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator in accordance with safety standards
- Stores food in designated areas following wrapping, dating, food safety and rotation procedures
- Cleans work areas, equipment and utensils
- Distributes supplies, utensils and portable equipment
- Utilizes approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control
- Serves customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service
- Resolves customer concerns and relays relevant information to supervisor
- Ensures compliance with company service standards and inventory and cash control procedures
- Assures compliance with all sanitation and safety requirements
- Performs other duties as assigned
