Job Requirements

  • No education required
  • at least one year of food service experience
  • ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, holidays, and weekends
  • desire or experience working with people facing homelessness, addiction, poverty, or mental health challenges
  • valid driver's license and clean driving record preferred
  • good judgment and professional boundaries
  • ability to follow safety protocols and instructions
  • ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 20 pounds consistently and occasionally over 30 pounds
  • willingness to work in kitchen environment with temperature extremes
  • ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive movements with physical activities such as pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, stooping, walking, twisting, and carrying

Job Qualifications

  • No formal education required
  • minimum of one year food service experience
  • ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • experience or willingness to work with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, homelessness, poverty, or addiction
  • ability to read, write, and follow routine verbal and written instructions
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills for diverse environments
  • team and customer service oriented
  • good judgment and self-control
  • knowledge of issues affecting underserved or at-risk communities
  • ability to understand and apply safety instructions and procedures

Job Duties

  • Carry out established food service processes and procedures aligned with UGMTC's mission and values
  • greet staff, residents, and visitors during serving
  • serve food trays to staff, residents, visitors, and volunteers during meal times
  • use correct serving utensils and portions, alert Kitchen Manager when food is low
  • clean work areas, cafeteria floors, serving line, and equipment
  • sanitize cafeteria tables, chairs, and counters
  • replenish foods, silverware, trays, and supplies at serving stations
  • assist in food preparation, setup, service, and garbage collection
  • wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans ensuring sanitary handling
  • operate industrial dishwashing equipment
  • report defective supplies or equipment to Kitchen Manager
  • work with volunteers to ensure proper food handling and safety
  • maintain cooperative relationships and communications within the team
  • perform other assigned duties as needed
