University Housing encompasses various operational units including Dining Services, Business Services Operations, Facilities Services, Promotions & Student Recruitment, and Residence Life. The department operates as a self-sustaining and self-liquidating entity with a budget of about 100 million dollars, receiving no funding from tuition or taxes, emphasizing the strategic and efficient management of resources. A key aspect of University Housing's mission is supporting student achievement, as research indicates that students living on campus tend to perform better academically, have higher retention and graduation rates, and complete their degrees faster.

The demanding nature of the role requires individuals who can work effectively in sometimes challenging conditions typical of the food service industry, such as dealing with slippery floors, temperature variations, heavy lifting, and extended standing.

The University of Oregon provides a comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees, which includes health and dental insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and a tuition discount for employees and their families attending UO or other Oregon public universities.
