Job Description

The MetroHealth System, located in Cuyahoga County, is a longstanding healthcare institution founded in 1837. It serves as the county's safety-net health system and is committed to redefining healthcare by focusing not only on medical treatment but also on improving the social determinants of health. This includes efforts toward affordable housing, creating a cleaner environment, ensuring economic opportunity, and enhancing access to fresh food, transportation, legal help, and other vital community services. The MetroHealth System operates four hospitals, four emergency departments, and more than 20 health centers, providing comprehensive healthcare services to the community. The system aims to have equal strength in disease prevention and treatment by adopting a holistic approach to health and well-being.

This position is for a Dietary Aide within the MetroHealth System. The role primarily involves maintaining cleanliness in assigned dietary areas and ensuring that all kitchen equipment and utensils are properly cleaned and sanitized. The job requires scrubbing and sanitizing dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and food carts. Additionally, the role includes cleaning surfaces and equipment to maintain a hygienic working environment. The Dietary Aide must uphold the organization’s mission, vision, values, and customer service standards while working diligently to support the overall health goals of the MetroHealth System. Working shifts are from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with rotating weekends and holidays, and the job requires management of biweekly work hours totaling 80 hours. The position requires physical stamina due to tasks such as lifting heavy items, bending, standing for extended periods, and exposure to various temperature conditions. It is an essential role that contributes to the quality and safety of food service within the healthcare system, directly impacting patient care and satisfaction by ensuring the cleanliness and safety of dietary environments.

Job Requirements

  • must be able to read and write English
  • high school diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam preferred
  • physical ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day
  • ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • normal vision and hearing with or without correction
  • ability to climb intermittently
  • ability to push, pull, and lift 100-300 pounds
  • exposure to chemicals and cleaning products
  • exposure to warm and cold temperatures

Job Qualifications

  • must be able to read and write English
  • high school diploma or equivalency preferred
  • knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing procedures preferred
  • ability to follow instructions and work independently
  • good communication skills
