Job Requirements
- Possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency
- One or more years of food service work experience or three or more years of commercial cooking including supervisory capacity
- Ability to lift or carry large portions of food
- Ability to stand long hours in kitchen conditions
- Valid vehicle operator’s license
- Ability to communicate clearly and honestly
- Ability to work in a cooperative, respectful, and professional manner
- Empathetic and nonjudgmental attitude
Job Qualifications
- One or more years of experience as a food service worker
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency
- Three or more years of commercial, industrial, or institutional cooking experience including supervisory experience
- Associate degree or four years of food service experience
- Knowledge of storekeeping or inventory procedures
- Ability to supervise and instruct employees and youth
- Experience with automated systems, spreadsheets, and databases
Job Duties
- Prepare or supervise preparation of meals using commercial kitchen equipment
- Maintain food service records
- Complete requisitions for food and supply items
- Follow basic dietetic principles to coordinate and audit meals
- Lift or carry large portions of food or ingredients during preparation and delivery
- Work long hours standing in kitchens which may have high temperatures
- Direct operation of a small to moderate size facility kitchen or serve as shift supervisor in a large kitchen
- Train and direct daily work of food service staff and youth helpers
- Evaluate employees, youth, and helpers in food preparation and serving
- Monitor safety and sanitation standards in kitchen, dining, and storage areas
- Develop menus compliant with nutrition rules for well-balanced meals
- Prepare work schedules reflecting shifts, days, and hours of work
